Intern Spotlight

Leigh Peterson

Student Intern, Indiana University --Bloomington, Indiana

“As an intern with The Apareció Foundation you will have the opportunity to be one of the creative forces driving the initial stages of a program that will empower young women to achieve their full potential—and that is tremendously satisfying.”

Leigh Peterson interned with The Apareció Foundation during the summer of 2009 after completing her junior year of school at the Indiana University campus in Bloomington, Indiana. With a background in Apparel Merchandising and Business and prior experience planning fundraising events and educational meetings for Riley's Children's Hospital in Indianapolis (University Dance Marathon), Leigh found The Apareció Foundation to be a great place for her to expand on her event planning and develop event research skills while continuing her past working experience with volunteer organizations.

The Apareció Internship Program

The Apareció Foundation Intern Program offers a unique opportunity for undergraduate, graduate/professional students or recent graduates with a strong interest in changing the lives of high-potential young women in Chicago. Our program provides an internship geared toward growth, learning and meaningful service. Interns will gain hands-on experience interacting directly with staff, volunteers and foundation stakeholders.

The Apareció Foundation is looking for dedicated, enthusiastic interns. During the fall and spring semesters, interns are required to dedicate 20 hours per week to the foundation, summer interns should expect to contribute 30 hours per week.

If you are interested in learning about available internship opportunities email info@apareciófoundation.org for more information.

Academic Success

Although the percentage of racial/ethnic minority and low-income high school graduates with aspirations to complete a bachelor’s degree or higher increased significantly from 1980 to 2002, this shift has not resulted in a high degree of academic success for these students at the university level.
