Golden Star Award Benefit

Scholars will have the opportunity to display their work from the workshop programs, speak about their community development project or read excerpts from their Write Now course. This is a great opportunity for scholars to practice their networking skills with guests at the gala in a real-world setting. In conjunction with the Auxiliary Board of The Apareció Foundation, scholars gain hands-on experience in event planning and fundraising. Proceeds from these events will go to support the Annual Fund. This event is conducted senior year of college.

Academic Success

Although the percentage of racial/ethnic minority and low-income high school graduates with aspirations to complete a bachelor’s degree or higher increased significantly from 1980 to 2002, this shift has not resulted in a high degree of academic success for these students at the university level.
